Listen to the audio I created based on the prompt below:
A while back, I took my little cousin to the mall. She was around five at the time. She was curious and let’s just say very determined when she wanted something.
We ended up in a toy store, mostly just to kill time. She wandered off toward the giant wall of stuffed animals while I stayed a few steps behind, figuring she was just browsing.
On the way out, I noticed her walking a little oddly, like she was trying to hold something under her jacket.
I asked, “You ok?”
She nodded quickly. Too quickly.
Then I saw it: a sliver of bright pink fluff sticking out of her zipper. She had tucked a small stuffed bear inside her coat.
When I asked her about it, she just said, “I didn’t think anyone would miss it.”
We turned around and went back. She handed it over without a meltdown, and I explained gently why we couldn’t just take things, even small ones. The store clerk wasn’t mad. Honestly, I think they were trying not to smile.
Later that week, I surprised her with a similar plush bear—this time paid for.
