Listen to the audio I created based on the prompt below:
Coraline has always been one of my all-time favorites, and after watching it countless times, I’ve developed a theory about its deeper plot.
If you haven’t seen the movie before, here’s a summary of the plot.

Coraline Theory: The Other Mother Has Done This Before
The Other Mother has trapped children long before Coraline came along – and she’ll keep doing it.
Here’s why:

The Ghost Children
This part’s not even theory, it’s in the movie. The ghost kids behind the mirror say they were just like Coraline: tempted by a perfect world, tricked into giving up their eyes, and left to rot in the Other World. So we already know Coraline isn’t the first.

She Built a World Just for Coraline
Everything in the Other World is tailor-made for Coraline: the food she loves, a version of her parents who actually listen, her favorite clothes, a talking cat, and even a magical garden shaped like her face.
So… this means she was watching Coraline for a long time. This is not a coincidence.

The Doll as a Surveillance Tool
The little button-eyed doll Coraline finds is creepy on its own, but what if it’s more than a toy? Some fans think the doll is a camera, a way for the Other Mother to spy on her targets. Every kid she lures starts with the doll. It learns their world. Then she builds her trap.
Final Thoughts
This theory makes the movie even more disturbing, because it turns the Other Mother from a one-time villain into a predator who’s been doing this for centuries.
And Coraline? She’s the first one smart, and brave, enough to break the cycle.
